This does not have to be a script but just a general summary and description of what your session and conversations were like with the “client” (or family….or both).

Case Study:
Becca is in her mid-20’s and presents with a strong pattern of unstable interpersonal relationships and extremely impulsive behaviors. Becca is terrified of being alone and abandoned and will do whatever it takes to stay with a partner. She demonstrates impulsive spending, substance use, and sexual behaviors. Often times if a partner realizes he is going to move on or end things, Becca will threaten suicide. Becca also has mood disturbances in which she is very irritable or anxious for a few hours a few days per week. She has always felt “empty” and does not get along well with others due to her difficulty in expressing anger and frustrations. Becca does have a childhood history of abuse and neglect and was abandoned by her parents at a young age.
1) Describe how you assessed the client/family during the first interview. How did you build rapport, etc. Discuss how you integrated any assessment tools? Why did you use these specific assessment tools? (back this up with research) What diagnosis did you give your client and why?
2) Discuss the intervention/counseling approach you are using with the client/family. Provide a rationale for this choice. Why did you choose this approach with this client and/or family? What are the benefits or drawbacks of the approach? Support this choice with the latest research findings.
3) Develop an initial treatment plan based on the intervention and approach you plan to use. Discuss specific goals and objectives and provide justifications. How will you measure and/or monitor these goals and track progress?
4) Provide details regarding at least two sessions and what you addressed with the “client”. This does not have to be a script but just a general summary and description of what your session and conversations were like with the “client” (or family….or both).
For example, you might start off this section with: “Clinician met with Client for initial session…..” or “Time was spent discussing…..” or “Clinician provided Client with ……….”
There is no “right or wrong” here, you can be creative but you must be thorough and provide justification for everything with research. Always reference what the literature says. Ask yourself WHY?, HOW?, etc.
5) Develop a 90-day treatment plan based on the treatment process “thus far”. Have initial treatment plan goals been met? Have you identified new issues or goals that need to be implemented? Describe the progress (if any) the “client” is making. What factors have contributed to progress? OR, what barriers have played a role in lack of progress. Be creative here too-you are basically creating your client scenario.
6) Prepare and conduct presentation of your case study treatment project as instructed in rubric included below.

Is it immediate or later?

1. Review the Case 1 Chapter 6: Ms Catherine. Determine her risk and protective factors for suicide and list them below. As the social worker working with her discuss what you would do to assess suicidal thoughts and intervene with the problems she presents with.
2. Review the following case and answer the questions that follow based on your review of the client, trainings, and suicide resources. You should develop a step-by-step cohesive approach to ensure the client’s safety for the next month.
A 23-year-old white male, self-referred. He has signed a confidentiality agreement and requests that you not inform anyone about what he is going to tell you. Patient bought a gun 2 months ago to kill himself and claims to have the gun and four shells in his car (police found the gun but no shells). Patient reports having planned a time and place for suicide several times in the past. States that he cannot live any more with his “emotional pain” since his wife left him 3 years ago. He has lost all hope of reconciliation with her. If she refuses to get back with him next week, he is planning to take her down with him because he is tired of living alone without her. This emotional pain has increased during the last week, but the patient cannot pinpoint any precipitant. Patient has a history of chemical dependency, but has been sober for 20 months and currently goes to AA. He lives alone.
3
Review the Case Analysis Rubric [DOCX].
4. In a 2-3 page double-spaced Word document, answer the following questions:
a. What are the risk and protective factors for suicide?
b. Is there a duty to warn? Based on information on your state, what are your responsibilities? https://www.ncsl.org/research/health/mental-health-professionals-duty-to-warn.aspx
c. Is there a plan? Is it immediate or later? Is it lethal? What is the risk (Go through the VaDod Risk Decision Tree)? What should be your action plan?
d. Review the NASW Code of Ethics. What ethical issues are involved in this case? How would you address them?

Identify and research a global or displaced population to focus on for this discussion.

Imagine that you are an immigrant arriving in a new country. Perhaps you are escaping persecution, famine, or war, or
simply pursuing a better life. Perhaps you are detained at the border. You do not have any support networks in this new
country, or if you do, they are distant relations. You do not know how the legal system works. You may not know the
official language. What would you need? Where would you go?
Social workers are positioned to support new immigrants in their access to services, navigation of systems and
policies, and mental and physical health. They must demonstrate cultural humility by, for example, integrating
questions related to cultural formulation into their interviews and assessments.
In this Discussion, you research a global or displaced population and create a scenario in which a member of that
population immiarates to the United States. You then respond to a colleague’s case scenario by describing how you
would engage with the immigrant client as a social worker.
TO PREPARE:
Review the American Psychiatric Association’s information on cultural formulation, as well as the Think Cultural
Health video showing the cultural formulation interview in practice.
Identify and research a global or displaced population to focus on for this Discussion. Imagine that a member of
this population immigrates to the United States. What strengths and challenges might they have? Develop a brief
case scenario describing the immigrant’s experience.
By Day 3
Post your original case scenario involving a new immigrant to the United States. In your scenario:
*Explain your approach for working with the new immigrant as a social worker.
*Consider how you might adapt the cultural formulation interview for the particular case.
*Address what you would do if the client does not speak a language in which you are fluent.
If you integrate the Learning Resources in your posts, make sure to provide APA citations and a reference list.

How do you define the social problem?

For your first publish of the program planning please answer below. Remember to use APA Guidlines and submit 3-5 pages double-spaced not including title and reference pages.
Identify the following items for your program planning project. Please note that there needs to be some research based on the selection of social problem and specific population. Use facts, not value judgements.
1 Social Problem – Identify a social problem you would like to address as part of your final project. What is the historical roots of this social problem? How do you define the social problem? What were your motivations or intentions of choosing this social problem? Who actually benefits from this? (Think about the article Social Change Vs Social Service and Chaper 3 of the textbook)
2 Specific Population – You will discuss the specific population (demographic characteristics) and the geographic area on which you will focus. Data that you will present will help to put your presentation of the problem into a local context. At the conclusion of this, you should make a summary statement that allows the reader to know exactly who you are going to recruit into the program, how many are affected, and where the program will be targeted.
3 Power Analysis – Identify the different system(s) that act as foot of oppression on this specific populaton. Now choose one system and list how that system marginalize, exclude, exploit, oppress, underserve the specific population you chose.
4 Ethical considerations (refer to Ethical Standards for Human Services Professionals) optional for publish #1 but will be required for the final project submission
◦ Choose ethical standards and codes that relate to your program
◦ Explain why cultural competency and cultural humility/cultural affirming care is important for your program
