Did you know that the US didn’t have an income tax until 1861? And that it was then declared unconstitutional in 1885? In 1913, the 16th amendment was ratified allowing income tax, and the rest is history, as they say. Since then, the US tax system has undergone a great deal of tax reform. There are many reasons why tax reform occurs including (but not limited to) political differences, economic reasons, and pandemics.
Just since 2017, the following tax reform has occurred:
Tax Cuts & Jobs Act of 2017 (TCJA)
Coronavirus Aid,
Relief & Economics Security Act of 2020 (CARES Act)
Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021 (CAA)
American Rescue Plan of 2021 (ARP)
Build Back Better Recovery Plan (TBD)
