First Formal Paragraph assignment
***** please just send the final essay these are just the instructions for each paragraph
Adapted from: Paragraphs and Essays, Sixth Edition, p.111 and Blackboard
Task: Write a descriptive paragraph (½ page minimum when typed
double-spaced) about a person, or a pet. Type this paragraph on the template
that Ms. Powell started for you in Google Classroom, in the Body Paragraphs
folder. Use the elements of the MEL Con body paragraph structure: Main
Idea, Evidence (Facts), Links (Why those Facts are important) and Conclusion
(Concluding remark) to make your paragraph both organized and creative.
When finished, turn in your paragraph in Google Classroom.
If writing about a person, describe his or her physical appearance using
imagery (vivid, concrete, sensory detail) that appeals to the reader’s five senses
(sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch). Make this person come alive, literally
spring off your paper, with colorful, imaginative adjectives. Remember, we have
not met this person and we are counting on you to fully describe him or her to us.
Consider how the person looks physically and draw a picture of him in your
reader’s imagination as to their physical dimensions.
If writing about a pet, do pretty much the same thing as above as to describing a
person. Appeal to the reader’s five senses (sight, sound, smell, taste, and
touch). Make the animal spring off the paper with your description of its physical
characteristics, and use lots of colorful, imaginative adjectives.
***Special Note: You may choose to handwrite some ideas on a piece of
notebook paper as you brainstorm for this first body paragraph about the physical
appearance of a person or a pet, or you may choose to type your brainstorming
notes on a cluster diagram that I have put in our Body Paragraphs folder in
Google Classroom for you to use. The brainstorming, whether on notebook
paper or typed on a cluster diagram, is not a graded part of this assignment; it is
just a recommended way to get started.
This first formal paragraph will become your first body paragraph in your first
essay, Description
Second Formal Paragraph assignment
Adapted from: Paragraphs and Essays, Sixth Edition, p.111 and Blackboard
Task: Write a second descriptive paragraph (½ page minimum when typed
double-spaced) about a person, or a pet (the same person or pet that you
described physically in your First Formal Paragraph – Body paragraph #1)
Type this paragraph on the template for Body Paragraph #2 that Ms. Powell
started for you in Google Classroom inside our Body Paragraph folder. Use the
elements of the MEL Con body paragraph structure: Main Idea, Evidence
(Facts), Links (Why those Facts are important) and Conclusion (Concluding
remark) to make your paragraph both organized and creative. When finished,
turn in your paragraph in Google Classroom.
Third Formal Paragraph assignment
Adapted from: Paragraphs and Essays, Sixth Edition, p.111 and Blackboard
Task: Write a third descriptive/narrative paragraph (½ page minimum when
typed double-spaced) about a person, or a pet (the same person or pet from
your previous two body paragraphs about his or her physical description
and personality). Type this paragraph on the Body Paragraph #3 template that
Ms. Powell started for you in Google Classroom in our Body Paragraph folder.
Use the elements of the MEL Con body paragraph structure: Main Idea,
Evidence (Facts), Links (Why those Facts are important) and Conclusion
(Concluding remark) to make your paragraph both organized and creative.
When finished, turn in your paragraph in Google Classroom
Then, COPy and PASTE all three (3) of your body
paragraphs from your previous three body paragraphs
(#1, #2, and #3 templates) onto this master
template for Essay #1.
Finally, type your conclusion directly onto this attached
template underneath your copied and pasted Body
Paragraph #3. Use the acronym, STAC, to guide what
you should include as per class discussion and our
samples.
And, please make sure you use proper MLA
formatting for your heading, title, and page numbers.
Also, please make sure you proofread your
essay carefully and fix any typos or grammatical
mistakes.
