Assignment Requirements
1. APA Formatted Student Title Page
Include a title page according to the APA formatting guidelines for student papers opens in new window. The title page should include the page number, paper title, your name, university, course number and title, instructor name, and date.
2. Organize Previous Academic Coursework
Using your Degree Works audit, organize courses in your areas of emphasis, concentration and/or minor taken at the 2000-, 3000-, or 4000-level into their appropriate academic disciplines based on the information you’ve learned in Module 2.
Create one heading for each of the two discipline areas in areas of emphasis, your concentration area or your minor. List three separate courses for each discipline and include the Course ID, Title, and use only two sentences to describe the knowledge and skills you gained. Do not copy course descriptions from the academic catalog or the syllabus. You should describe what you learned in your own words (I learned . . . The skills I gained were . . .)
DISCIPLINE 1 [NAME]
Course 1: Course ID, Title, and description of knowledge and skills gained from the course*
Course 2: Course ID, Title, and description of knowledge and skills gained from the course*
Course 3: Course ID, Title, and description of knowledge and skills gained from the course*
DISCIPLINE 2 [NAME]
Course 1: Course ID, Title, and description of knowledge and skills gained from the course*
Course 2: Course ID, Title, and description of knowledge and skills gained from the course*
Course 3: Course ID, Title, and description of knowledge and skills gained from the course*
3. Frame Your Two Primary Academic Disciplines
In question 2, you organized your primary coursework into two academic disciplines. Next, you will provide context to support your selections. Using complete sentences for each, answer the following questions in your own words for each of the two disciplines (do not copy information directly from our course materials or readings):
DISCIPLINE 1 [NAME] (use only one complete sentence for each bullet)
To which category (Humanities, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Formal Sciences, or Applied Sciences) does the discipline belong? Refer to Module 2 Reading 2.1, Outline of Academic Disciplines.
What phenomena, issues or problems does the discipline study?
Note: A good strategy to find this information is to follow the link for the discipline in the Module 2 Reading 2.1, Outline of Academic Disciplines. There will be a brief description of the discipline that includes background information about the topics (phenomena) it studies. Another strategy is conducting an internet search for the discipline name and the word ‘phenomena’, such as ‘Biology phenomena’. Cite your sources for any information you include that is not common knowledge.
DISCIPLINE 2 [NAME] (use only one complete sentence for each bullet)
To which category does the discipline belong?
What phenomena, issues, or problems does the discipline study?
4. Brainstorm One Potential Research Problem
Think about the topics you have discussed in previous courses, current events, or issues of personal importance that are related to your previous academic experiences. Answer each of the following questions in one complete sentence:
What research problem related to your previous coursework would you like to research? (Use an appropriate source: peer-reviewed article, trade journal article or government publication.)
Which of your previous academic disciplines is related to this research problem and why?
Why do you believe this research problem is complex?
5. Reference Page
Include a reference page for all information cited in the assignment according to the APA student paper setup guide opens in new window. Consult the APA Style Common Reference Examples Guide opens in new window for sample references you can use as templates for your own reference page.
– My two minor courses are Psychology and Theatre
