Hello Dr. and class,
What differentiates the practice of a master’s-prepared nurse compared to that of a baccalaureate-prepared nurse?
The differences between the practice of a master’s prepared nurse to that of a baccalaureate prepared nurse is that a BSN is a more focused on bedside nursing critic thinking and care. Where as the MSN is more of a specialized role such as a nurse practitioner, clinical educator, leadership type nursing, and still able to do bedside nursing care (Clark, 2015). The master’s prepared nurse has more of a autonomy in making day to day decision impacting patient care. An advanced degree such as MSN, gives the nurse higher level skill sets, communication skills and training.
What is the value of a master’s degree in nursing?
The value of a masters degree in nursing is that this gives the nurse skills set to be able to use during patient care. It also gives them more flexibility in the work place. They have more chose in job opportunity, other than just working in hospital or outpatient settings (DeNisco, p5, 2015). It also provides the nurse more freedom to make decisions, without having to first having to wait for an MD order. It also gives them a chance to advance their career in a specialized area of their interest.
What do you consider to be the most essential professional competency for a master’s-prepared nurse practicing in the 21st century?
The most essential professional competency for a master’s-prepared nurse practicing in the 21st century is that allows the nurse to be more involved in decision making process. This gives the nurse the knowledge and confidence to take charge and be a part of the decision making process for their patient. It also gives them the chance to specialize in any area of nursing that interest them. This gives them the opportunity to branch and work in leadership such as administration, education, and clinical research.
Thank you,
